‘Across the Open Moor’

19th Century School

A warm and expansive oil on board depicting a solitary figure walking along a winding path through open countryside. The artist draws the eye into the composition with a gentle recession of rolling hills, leading towards a distant horizon beneath a softly clouded sky. Earthy greens and ochres dominate the landscape, contrasted by cooler tones in the distance, creating depth and atmosphere. The loose, painterly handling and subtle play of light across the terrain evoke a sense of quiet movement and rural solitude, characteristic of 19th century landscape painting.
