A wonderfully atmospheric oil on board depicting waves crashing beneath a darkened and turbulent sky. Painted in rich blue-grey tones with expressive brushwork, the composition captures the movement and energy of the sea beautifully, with foaming water breaking against distant rocks beneath heavy cloud cover. Though modest in scale, the painting has a striking presence and a distinctly romantic maritime character.

Frame: Presented in an ornate Victorian gilt frame with embossed foliate decoration and age-related wear, losses and patina consistent with its age.  
Condition: Good decorative condition overall with minor surface wear and light age-related marks.
