‘Fishing Boats’

Attributed to John Moore of Ipswich (1820–1902)

A lively coastal oil on board depicting a small fishing vessel under full sail, cutting through choppy waters beneath a softly lit sky. The warm terracotta sails catch the light beautifully, contrasting with the cooler tones of the restless sea. Figures aboard the boat add a sense of scale and narrative, while additional vessels in the distance and distant shoreline hints lend depth and atmosphere. The composition captures both the movement of the water and the resilience of coastal life, characteristic of Moore’s maritime subjects.
