‘Low Tide’

Dutch School, early 19th Century

A softly atmospheric coastal view depicting a harbour settlement at dusk, with sailing vessels drawn up along the quay and buildings clustered beneath rising cliffs beyond. The calm expanse of water reflects the fading light of the sky, while small figures and boats animate the shoreline, lending scale and quiet narrative to the scene. The restrained palette of warm earth tones and silvery blues is characteristic of early 19th-century Dutch marine painting, creating a sense of stillness and contemplative depth.
