‘Portrait of Viscount Petersham’
In the manner of Sir Joshua Reynolds, early 20th Century
A large and finely executed pastel study inspired by Sir Joshua Reynolds’ celebrated portrait “Jane, Countess of Harrington, with her Sons, the Viscount Petersham and the Hon. Lincoln” (circa 1778). The work captures the youthful elegance of Viscount Petersham, rendered here with delicate tonal layering and a refined palette evocative of Reynolds’ original. The sitter’s soft gaze, flushed complexion, and feathered hat are sensitively modelled, reflecting the grace and sentiment characteristic of 18th-century portraiture.
